Losing, Democrats versus Republicans

November 8, 2006 at 7:43 pm (The Left, The Right, The United States, US Government)

It seems, and correct me if I am wrong, that when Democrats lose, Democrats blame Republicans (fraud, “stealing” elections, and so on) and they blame the American people (for being stupid, and so on); their loss is unfair, unjust, and wrong. But when Republicans lose, Republicans blame it on themselves; their loss is deserved.

Now, which one is better equipped to change, evolve, and move forward?

[…] This post really explains all the problems with the Democrats.  It’s always someone else’s fault.  I really hate that in a person, let alone an orgnaization. […]

Well I seem to remember that the Republicans were all over Ross Perot when Clinton won…. Are you suffering from memory loss????

Sorry. I was living overseas back then, so I was not aware of this.

The Republicans were all over Ross Perot because Perot, did, in fact, siphon off enough votes to allow Clinton to win not a majority but a plurality. Blaming Perot or those who voted for him was entirely valid in that case. I am confident that had Perot not run for office, Clinton wouldn’t have won.

Of course, you can also blame GHW Bush and those Repubs for the problem, since they were obviously not impressive enough to prevent their own constituency from voting for Perot.

But Musli is right. When you compare the 2004 and 2006 elections, the reactions from the losers is like night and day. We Repubs blame the Repubs, we aren’t threatening to move to Canada so that we don’t have to share the country with people we loathe, we aren’t accusing the populace of being a bunch of ignoranimuses, we aren’t screaming “voter fraud!” and we lob only some of the blame on the MSM for being so shamelessly partisan. Which it was.

Because… he caused President Clinton to win and that annoyed people. Not exactly hard to work out, really is it? But you don’t see the GOP crying voter fraud and screaming recount, do you now?
