Prophets, seers, and revelators of the Dispensation of the Fulness of Times, Presidents of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

1. JOSEPH SMITH, JR., began his presidency on April 6, 1830. His presidency ended with his martyrdom on June 27, 1844.

2. BRIGHAM YOUNG became the de facto president upon the martyrdom of Joseph Smith, Jr., on June 27, 1844. His presidency officially began on December 27, 1847, three years and six months later, and ended with his death on August 29, 1877.

3. JOHN TAYLOR became the de facto president upon the death of Brigham Young on August 29, 1877. His presidency officially began on October 10, 1880, three years, one month, and eleven days later, and ended with his death on July 25, 1887.

4. WILFORD WOODRUFF became the de facto president upon the death of John Taylor on July 25, 1887. His presidency officially began on April 7, 1889, about two years later, and ended with his death on September 2, 1898.

5. LORENZO SNOW became the de facto president upon the death of Wilford Woodruff on September 2, 1898. His presidency officially began on September 13, 1898, eleven days later, and ended with his death on October 10, 1901.

6. JOSEPH F. SMITH became the de facto president upon the death of Lorenzo Snow on October 10, 1901. His presidency officially began on October 17, 1901, seven days later, and ended with his death on November 19, 1918. (Name-wise, he should not be confused with Joseph Smith, Jr., the first president, or with Joseph Fielding Smith, the tenth president.)

7. HEBER J. GRANT became the de facto president upon the death of Joseph F. Smith on November 19, 1918. His presidency officially began on November 23, 1918, four days later, and ended with his death on May 14, 1945.

8. GEORGE ALBERT SMITH became the de facto president upon the death of Heber J. Grant on May 14, 1945. His presidency officially began on May 21, 1945, seven days later, and ended with his death on April 4, 1951.

9. DAVID O. MCKAY became the de facto president upon the death of George Albert Smith on April 4, 1951. His presidency officially began on April 9, 1951, five days later, and ended with his death on January 18, 1970.

10. JOSEPH FIELDING SMITH became the de facto president upon the death of David O. McKay on January 18, 1970. His presidency officially began on January 23, 1970, five days later, and ended with his death on July 2, 1972.

11. HAROLD B. LEE became the de facto president upon the death of Joseph Fielding Smith on July 2, 1972. His presidency officially began on July 7, 1972, five days later, and ended with his death on December 26, 1973.

12. SPENCER W. KIMBALL became the de facto president upon the death of Harold B. Lee on December 26, 1973. His presidency officially began on December 30, 1973, four days later, and ended with his death on November 5, 1985.

13. EZRA TAFT BENSON became the de facto president upon the death of Spencer W. Kimball on November 5, 1985. His presidency officially began on November 10, 1985, five days later, and ended with his death on May 30, 1994.

14. HOWARD W. HUNTER became the de facto president upon the death of Ezra Taft Benson on May 30, 1994. His presidency officially began on June 5, 1994, six days later, and ended with his death on March 3, 1995.

15. GORDON B. HINCKLEY became the de facto president upon the death of Howard W. Hunter on March 3, 1995. His presidency officially began on March 12, 1995, nine days later, and ended with his death on January 27, 2008.

16. THOMAS S. MONSON became the de facto president upon the death of Gordon B. Hinckley on January 27, 2008. His presidency officially began on February 3, 2008, seven days later, and he continues to serve as the President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and as the Lord’s called and anointed Prophet, Seer, and Revelator.
