Father tries to kill daughter who wants to leave Islam

A teenage girl wanted to convert from Islam to Christianity. Her father tried to stab her. Her mother intervened, and was stabbed (and killed). The girl ran out of the apartment. She has survived. Her father is battling for his life (and I hope he loses).

try thinking for yourself instead of relying on the negative comments of others.
people are not inherently evil. everyone is good but some make bad choices… especially the the choices that are made on compulsion and not thought through and how they will effect others.

You evidently completely ignored the fact that the murder was because a Muslim wanted to leave Islam.
Many Christians leave Christianity. Many Jews leave Judaism. Even Buddhists and Hindus apostatize. But no one tries to kill them.
Only in Islam do they still try to kill apostates today.

And you seem to be ignoring the ease with which fathers and brothers turn to honor killings. This is not the case of one father from 1.3 billion Muslims but rather a mentality that seems to breed this type of behavior. Consider, for example, the rash of honor killings that Western courts systems have had to deal with in Europe and Australia. (Leaving aside, of course, uncontested honor killings that occur with alarming frequency in Muslim states – and I know of it because I have lived in one such state.) No, this was neither an accident, nor an isolated case.

It seems this, um, “misunderstanding” is quite widespread.

There is no misunderstanding – when women are covered head to toe at all times you cannot see bruises on their face or arms from being hit or grabbed, when they are prevented from leaving their house unescorted, they cannot escape violence (such as schoolgirls being killed for trying to flee a burning school without burqas), and when they are prevented from voting they have no voice in their own fate.
Ultimately this leaves them at the mercy of simple human nature, which definitely has an evil side, regardless of what culture you are from – Christian, Muslim, Hindu etc.
This is why laws must be strong and equal, and easily accessible to all people, whether they are religious laws or secular ones.

Some of you are pathetic. Most muslim women do not get beaten up, and in the Quaraan it does not encourage mulsim men to hit their wives. Also it does not say kill those who lose faith in islam.
I happen to know this bengali-mulsim family and I know it was an accident.

Koran 47.4 “When in battle you encounter unbelievers, then cut off their heads…”
8.12 “…terrorize the infidels. Cut off their heads and the tips of their fingers.”
9.5 “After the sacred months have ended, then kill the idolaters wherever they are”
4.92 “It is against Muslim law for a Muslim believer to kill another Muslim. But if it happens accidently, then one slave must be freed and compensation paid to the victim’s family”
(The Quran approves of and encourages Muslims keeping slave-girls).
4.34 “Men are superior to and have authority over women. Women should be obedient to men, and keep themselves covered. Disobedient women should be beaten.”

Well here’s my say in the matter:
1) All religions have an extremist side and certain writings that encourage these extremists to commit violence and such.
2) Islam is a religion of non-violence.
3) People should follow the golden rule “Do not do unto others what you don’t want others to do unto you”
I’m not saying Islam is a bad religion but if you really love Islam please tell the extremists to stop this violence and aggression! Protest it! Each religion has it’s bad history. But whats important is that you have the power to change it!
