Bloggers defend one of their own
As if this were not blogged about enough, a university adjunct professor made inappropriate, violent, and threatening remarks about a blogger’s son. (For information, see Michelle Malkin’s post “A Blogger Under Siege” at Michelle Malkin.) After bloggers went on the offensive, she resigned from her job.
I am proud of the blogosphere. The professor crossed a very, very clear line. One cannot be allowed to make such remarks with impunity. One must be made to face the consequences of one’s actions and remarks. I am very proud how many bloggers rallied to support the threatened blogger. The professor’s remarks were unacceptable.
I had an email composed and ready. Had nothing happened by Monday or Tuesday, I was going to send it. It had about a dozen members of the professor’s university’s faculty and administration. Thankfully, the professor admitted defeat.
This is not a matter of Right versus Left. This is not a matter of power or influence or shutting down crackpot commenters. This is about demanding that people respect the life and security of others. I still cannot express how enraged and disturbed I was to read what the professor wrote. Even now I can’t believe such a thing was possible.
I wish the blogger and his family well. I continue to stand by him, especially as he is one of my favorite bloggers.
